What is SEO and how does it work? The basics.
SEO or search engine optimisation is the terminology and phrasing used within your website which helps your website to be found on the search engine e.g. Google.
Google is THE biggest search engine in the world and when you write what you are looking for in the search box on the homepage of Google, Google runs through its automated list of related search terms to deliver its user the best results.
How does a search engine deliver great results?
The SEO when building a website, or the SEO when redesigning a website or a content/blog writer needs to create its written word to elevate what Google is searching for and this is ultimately why SEO is important.
For example, and to make this clear:
It's not ok just to write simply about the new VW golf that has hit the market but you would also need to write why the VW Golf is different from the last model? What the VW Golf might be similar to? How the VW Golf is better than anything else on the market.
The expansion of your explanation enhances your chances of letting Google find and recommending your blog or website page over anything else in competition and this is why the execution of SEO is exciting.
And this is why blog writing is encouraged. Blogs ultimately are kept together on a page on your website, each blog visible yet neatly hidden away but gives you more of an opportunity to be found on a search engine should someone be looking for what you are writing about.
Therefore including good SEO can help you in business because if you are first on Google’s list then anyone who has searched for you will click on your site and therefore you have an option to follow through to a sale of your product or service.
So, where to start with SEO?
The simple answer is to look at what your competitors are doing - and then do it better!
Take their wording and phrasing, closely look at what they are saying, doing and enhance that. It’s a competition when it comes to website development and there is ALWAYS room for improvement.
This also goes for blogs. You will usually find blogs will be reinvented and worked on and then published again a year later - a sneaky trick is to use the year in the title which helps the optimisation.
There are plenty of plug ins and apps which can help you with the SEO search terms which help with inspiration for terms of what to include. Just Google SEO search tools and find which app works best for you.
SEO is now even suggested to have expanded into apps such as Facebook. However Facebook hasn’t released this as a definite but you can use the bar at the top to search for key phrases and results will show. So, this suggests that everything we post needs to be optimised to increase chance of customer interaction and solution.
So to sum up - Compare you to your competition - see who comes up first on Google - see what they are doing better, if they are… and keep reviewing and re-writing so that you can be on the first page of a Google search.
